Disappearance of office furniture, equipment irks new Munti mayor
07/12/2007 Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro has called an investigation to pinpoint those responsible for vandalizing and stealing properties that belong to the city government. The mayor said he discovered that several service vehicles, motorcycles and trucks were vandalized shortly after he assumed office vacated by former Mayor Jaime Fresnedi last week. “We discovered that some batteries were missing from the cars and trucks and the ignition mechanism of some motorcycles were jammed,” a fuming San Pedro said. In his directive to City Administrator Obet Bunyi, San Pedro said he also sought an investigation into the sudden disappearance of office furniture and equipment from the Office of the Mayor formerly occupied by Fresnedi. “When I came to this office, there was practically nothing left as if it was ransacked by thieves,” he said. San Pedro, one of the seven bets of Genuine Opposition that won in the last elections, beat Fresnedi’s wife, Lor, in the last mayoralty race. He said even souvenirs and memorabilia that were given as gifts by diplomats and foreign officials who visited the city mysteriously disappeared. “Those are properties of the city government and should not be taken by anyone, they should be kept in the museum for safekeeping,” San Pedro added. The mayor said Bunyi has been tasked to initiate the filing of criminal cases as well as administrative sanctions against the culprits if they happen to be employees of the city hall. Bunyi said heads will surely roll once they have established the identities of individuals behind the thefts. Ben Gines Jr. Back to top
