Threats of MILF arrests flop, 130 warrants back in court

Senate eyes probe of US combat troops’ presence

2007/08/17

Tough talk from the police and the military on arresting some 130 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Abu Sayyaf rebels whom they claimed massacred 14 Marines, with 10 of them beheaded in Basilan, and for which thousands of troops were sent to back up the elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in serving these arrest warrants, turned out to be nothing but bluster, in the military brass’ bid to get the troops to cool down their anger over the brutal slaying of their Marine comrades.

The PNP yesterday returned to the court the warrants of arrests issued against 130 MILF and Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) suspects after they failed to serve the warrant to any of the suspects... Full Story »»»

GTK suspends Muros’ coach

‘POLITICALLY MOTIVATED’

Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association yesterday suspended indefinitely national coach George Noel Posadas — husband/coach of the legendary Elma Muros, after 36 coaches and athletes petitioned Patafa president Go Teng Kok to remove him for alleged incompetence and for being incapable of training athletes under his care.

But Posadas debunked these claims, saying his ouster was tainted with politics after Go had accused him of squealing confidential information to his bitter nemesis, Phi.. Full Story »»»

Bloodbath in market as US crisis worsens

The bloodletting intensified at the financial markets yesterday as the stock index fell through the 3,000 mark while the peso dipped to 46.43 from 46.23 the previous day despite suspected Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) intervention.
