Business leaders bring 68 big infrastructure projects under tight watch

04/26/2008

The business community will closely monitor 68 major infrastructure projects under a new task force that would look into the completion of these activities.

As it sees the need for private sector’s participation in the monitoring of infrastructure projects, the Philippine Chamber of the Commerce and Industry (PCCI) 30,000 strong members and 100 chapters in practically all provinces and major cities nationwide is actively working with the Pro-Performance Infrastructure Task Force under the Office of the Presidential Management Staff in monitoring the projects and ensuring that they are moving on schedule with proper funding and quality standards in place.

The infrastructure working committee is spearheaded by Special Envoy for International Trade and PCCI Chairman Emeritus Donald Dee and Dr. Henri Basilio, co-chairman of the Export Development Council Infrastructure Working Group an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry and Chairman of PCCI Infrastructure Committee.

Dee said the committee is focused on monitoring the 68 SONA flagship projects nationwide such as upgrading of major airports, seaports including RO-RO Ports and railway projects.

Among the airport projects that the committee is currently monitoring includes: the rectification works of NAIA Terminal 3; fast-tracking the acquisition of remaining lots critical to the operation of the Instrument Landing System at Kalibo Airport; and, the conduct of feasibility study for the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport Master Plan Phase 1 which is envisioned to become the new international gateway of the Philippines.
