PBC 2008 to tackle energy, food crisis
07/04/2008 Two critical issues facing the country’s economic competitiveness, energy and food sufficiency will be the main agenda of this year’s biggest annual business forum. These are among the highlights of the 34th Philippine Business Conference (PBC) and Expo that kick-off on Oct. 22 to 24 carrying the theme “One. Global. Filipino. Sustaining Gains, Surging Ahead.” The event would also tackle the significant gains that the Philippine has achieved in its Asean participation and global economic integration. It will enlighten the private sector on the importance of the country’s commitment to help in the realization of the Asean vision and economic roadmap. Apart from its focus to address pressing issue such as energy and food security, members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) will also hold talks on investments, environment (global warming), and education (miss match of skills). Anchoring the whole program are the plenary sessions where intense and no-hold-barred dialog between business and government leaders will take place, to draw up resolutions and policy pronouncements which will be presented to the President. Annually, PBC draws over 3,000 delegates and exhibitors coming from PCCI’s more than 20,000 extensive network of chambers, corporate members and industry associations nationwide. This year’s PBC is chaired by food and beverage magnate Amb. Alfredo Yao. New PCCI officers are Edgardo Lacson as president; Miguel Varela as chairman; Sergio Ortiz-Luis as honorary chairman; and Donald Dee as chairman emeritus. Ayen Infante Back to top
