Asiana acquires 30 new Airbus
09/08/2008 Asiana Airlines (OZ) has ordered 30 new Airbus A350 XWB as its next-generation fleet for $66.82 million. The orders were made, along with 10 other options, during the Farnborough International Airshow. The A350 XWB (Xtra Wide Body) Family is a medium-capacity long-range wide-body aircraft that has the widest fuselage in its category. Asiana has said that the A350 XWB will allow the airline to operate more airplanes with greater flexibility as the market demands. The A350 XWB Family has several models to choose from, with different features for flight distance and capacity. Passengers will be situated more comfortably with its wider fuselage. The A350 XWB Family also boasts high efficiency ratings amid airline companies’ concerns for fuel costs and the environmental protection. Asiana also chose the A350 XWB for the similarity of its cockpit to the A320 and A330, which the airline currently operates. In line with its expansion, Asiana has studied future markets and different aircraft for over a year before deciding on the A350 XWB. Aside from Asiana, over 20 airlines have ordered about 350 A320 XWB aircraft so far. Asiana expects the first shipments of their new planes by 2016. Back to top
