Hot bods for all seasons

Though they are already as scorching as the summer, some celebrities have been hard at work preparing for beach-body days. It might be raining a little nowadays, but until Pag-asa declares that it is officially the rainy season, summer will linger on... And looking good should always be everyone’s business, not only when the family or barkada is off to their favorite summer destination.
Celebrities are no different. They prepare as religiously as most people who want to look good in swimwear. In fact, four celebrities joined in on the challenge and spilled the beans on how they manage to keep their flab from showing.

Eating well
Wellness experts agree that a leaner body is achieved through 70 to 90 percent well-balanced diet and the rest, exercise. This mantra has been taken to heart by actors Luis Manzano, Gerald Anderson, Matteo Guidicelli and Paulo Avelino.
Believing that eating healthy is key, they agreed to lend their faces to popular tuna brand Century Tuna. The four profess that this tuna is delicious, and moreover share their individual favorites using tuna, which is a proven healthy go-to food for many health buffs.
“For me, it’s the Tuna Silog. Of course, the most important meal of the day is breakfast. Like those who live an active lifestyle, they need to consume food full of energy,” shared Gerald, who stars as an athlete in the daytime drama Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin.
Goryo star Paulo Avelino, meanwhile, said he substitutes the tuna in a Filipino favorite dish. “Who doesn’t want to have meryenda with Tuna Pancit Canton?” asks Paulo with a laugh. “It’s very easy to make!” he added.
Matteo, for his part, does not have problem with consuming tuna anytime of day. “As you guys saw on the commercial, I have the Tuna Egg Sandwich. It’s always on the go; you can take it anywhere. It’s very easy to prepare and you can do it breakfast, lunch, dinner or meryenda,” said Matteo.
Minute 2 Win It host Luis Manzano, meanwhile, just gets his favorite ready-to-open Century Corned Tuna can and prepares it two ways: as Corned Tuna Whole Wheat Sandwich or as a complete meal in itself. The latter he would quick-fry with quinoa and seasonal veggies.
Pushing themselves
Apart from being the country’s leading actors, these men are health buffs as well. Gerald admits there are days when he doesn’t feel like going to the gym. “There are times that you really want to feel like not doing anything; you would just like to watch TV. Even the best athletes go through this, but those are the days that are most important, that you need to work out. You just have to motivate yourself about the outcome and improvement in your body,” Gerald shared.
For Paulo, lazy days usually happen after his shoots. “On my part, that happens after a long day of taping. You wake up late and you feel tired. It’s just... get out of your house and get out of your bed. Once you start to sweat it out in the gym, you will slowly pick up your rhythm and you will be in the mood to work out. An exercise would be your workout,” he said.
A great support team motivates racer Matteo to go to the gym. “Surround yourself with a very positive community and with a team that motivates you because there are really days when you wake up in the morning and you want to enjoy the bed and you don’t want to get up,” he said. “But I always think that if I do that I’m only wasting time, time which I can use to improve more everyday.”
The ever-busy and more experienced Luis, meanwhile, shared that even though he has quite a busy workload, he tries to find time just to go to the gym. He has been known to dabble in various exercises and routines such as swimming, sprinting, mixed martial arts, muay thai and jiu jit su.
“Try to find time to workout, maybe four or five times a week. If I have a late call, I go in the morning. If I finish early, I will go straight to the gym. It’s something that you put an effort in,” said Luis.

How they motivate themselves
“There were a lot of times when I got insecure with my body, so being fit is very important because confidence comes with it. ‘Fit’ doesn’t really have to be six-pack abs. For me, fit is being healthy, with proper exercise and confidence,” shared Paulo.
“There’s a stage in my life when I was very conscious about how I looked. But later, at some point, I got comfortable. It’s about how you live your lifestyle, what you eat, the way you live your life, how much you sleep and how much you exercise,” explained Matteo.
It’s not yet too late to find your own recipe to sexy. Just like these men, you can be the best version of yourself with proper diet and hard work.
