BDO workers help victims of Mayon volcano eruption

As part of corporate citizenship initiatives organized by BDO Foundation, officers and staff of BDO branches in Legazpi City in the province of Albay extended a helping hand to families affected by the multiple eruptions of Mayon volcano.
Over 50 volunteers from at least four BDO branches conducted relief work in 27 barangays, distributing packs containing food, rice and water to more than 6,500 families to help them cope with the calamity.
The employees were joined by non-BDO volunteers as well as local officials.
The operations were led by BDO Bicol area head Jovi Alvarez, BDO Legazpi City-Albay District branch head Vina Sunga, BDO Legazpi City-Rizal Street branch head James Verdida, BDO Legazpi City-Rotonda branch head Lani Domiquil and BDO Legazpi City-Tahao branch head Thaddeus Tuason.
BDO employees provide aid to victims of natural or man-made disasters all over the country. This is in keeping with the disaster response advocacy of BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank.
As a follow-up to its relief efforts, the foundation pursues long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction programs in provinces hit by disasters.
Tens of thousands of evacuees fled areas surrounding the volcano when it erupted early this year. Government officials raised alert levels and placed Albay under a state of calamity as Mayon, regarded as the Philippines’ most active volcano, triggered seismic activity and released fountains of lava and plumes of ash into the sky.
