Live bacteria in BTIC frozen yogurt strengthens immune system
10/22/2006 Ever since Better Than Ice Cream (BTIC) was introduced in the Philippines 15 years ago, the local frozen yogurt company has constantly been promoting the fact that it is a delicious and nutritious product with friendly active bacteria cultures — the Streptococcus thermophillus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus — helping the digestive system to function properly. It has been said these live bacteria found in yogurt also strengthens the immune system, prevents diarrhea, promotes healing, specially after intestinal infections, guards against ulcers, and helps in decreasing yeast infections making BTIC frozen yogurt a totally healthy dessert. US research shows Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus can actually prevent intestinal discomfort following common antibiotic treatments. Live yogurt cultures can reduce the amount of time for bacterial infection to flourish in the intestines, thus, making them an effective alternative to antibiotics. The cultures also make yogurt easy to digest — even for lactose-intolerant people. They can kill bad bacteria, such as listeria and salmonella. Indeed, yogurt is much healthier than milk. It is a lot easier to digest because enzymes from the yogurt bacteria break down some of the lactose during the fermentation process. There’s also preliminary evidence that once the yogurt’s eaten, the bacteria may continue to help break down lactose in the intestinal tract. The fat in yogurt made from whole milk makes it creamy, while the low-fat and non-fat yogurts often contain ingredients such as milk solids or gelatin to produce a creamy consistency. Generally, besides being rich in calcium, all types of yogurt are good sources of protein, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, and niacin. Low-fat and non-fat varieties lose some of the fatsoluble vitamin A found in whole milk yogurts, while the addition of non-fat milk solids to any yogurt will increase the levels of calcium, protein, B vitamins, and sodium. Naturally, the amount of cholesterol in whole milk yogurt is higher than that in the low-fat versions. Keeping in mind that all these healthy attributes are in BTIC’s delectable frozen yogurt products, you’ll get the yummy goodness of ice cream without the guilt. BTIC products are prepared with special care and made only from the finest, natural ingredients. It uses fresh milk, select natural fruits, and active yogurt cultures. Its special formulation eliminates the tangy taste usually associated with yogurts to create a frozen dessert that’s creamy, smooth, refreshingly sweet and absolutely tastes better than ice cream.
