PBM now ACPA int’l partner
04/22/2007 The Philippine Band of Mercy (PBM), an institution that attends to indigent Filipinos suffering from cleft lip/palate and other diseases such as cataract and glaucoma, was recently accepted as an international partner of The American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA), in the coordinator/administrator specialty division, proving how dedicated the institution is to its cause. ACPA is an international non-profit medical society of health care professionals who treat and/or perform research on birth defects of the head and face. The development was reported by PBM president Jesus Cardenas in PBM’s 69th General Membership Assembly. According to Cardenas, it is to be considered a significant sign which can help define PBM as one of the more accomplished institution in the country. “After years of sincere service, it’s good to be recognized by the most renowned association when it comes to our course,” he said. “This will truly inspire each and everyone to continue with our common goal, soon to be a legacy.” As an ACPA member, PBM can tap facilities and grants from ACPA for the continuation of its medical professionals’ education on cleft and craniofacial disciplines. PBM is also given access to clinical and scientific information related to cleft and craniofacial anomalies. Also, PBM furthered its services as it formed two new cleft palate teams to perform active treatment and interdisciplinary care to cleft beneficiaries and expanded the Human and Social Development Program for the families of its beneficiaries through an assistance fund.
