Energy security a common concern among Asean
07/01/2007 Once again, energy gets center stage in the program of activities of Leverage International in the next three months. On Aug. 22 to 24, at Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, Leverage and Jakarta-based Asean Center for Energy (ACE) will gather energy project developers, the financial community, government officials and executives of energy companies involved in the development of energy and the power sector in the Asean region. The occasion is the Asean Energy Business Forum (AEBF), an annual business forum to address issues affecting the region’s energy sector. The AEBF will cover issues relating to the Asean Free Trade Agreement and the Asean Energy Market, energy and oil prices, developments in oil and gas, the electricity market, renewable energy, biofuels, coal and other fuels, energy efficiency and conservation, and the prospects of the Asean market for carbon emission credits. A very specialized exhibit is being organized for this important audience. This event is being organized in conjunction with the Asean Ministers Meeting together with their counterparts in Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea which will be taking place at the same time and venue. Senior energy oficials of government and private business of these countries will all be present in the gathering. The Energy Market Authority of Singapore will play host to these events. Here in Manila on Sept. 19 to 21, Leverage with its Singapore event partner Interfama Fairs and Exhibitions Pte. Ltd. will present the 6th presentation of PowerTrends international exhibition and conference in cooperation with the Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Power Corp. As the country grapples with soaring oil prices and its adverse impact on the economy, environment-friendly fuels will be prominently featured at PowerTrends in line with DoE’s program to promote energy independence to spur economic growth in off-grid areas. At the same time, intensive promotion of oil and gas exploration, infrastructure development to support systems upgrade and expansion of power plants and energy efficient technologies and appliances will receive special attention in the two-day business forum to be held concurrently with the exhibit. These international exhibits and conferences are brought together by Leverage International Inc., a Philippine consultancy firm that provides a comprehensive range of research, planning, technical, marketing and management services to public and private sector organizations.
