Abbott Int’l partners with medical community to help advance health sector
07/08/2007 Preparing medical diagnoses and proper treatments can be a very complicated process. Doctors consolidate and analyze patient symptoms, previous cases, laboratory results and other information under stressful conditions and timelines. Physicians are also dependent on clinical studies and medical breakthroughs that are frequently inaccessible to help them develop evidence-based prognoses and cures. Abbott International, a pharmaceutical known to pioneer healthcare treatments and solutions, launched the Abbott E-library, an innovative medical data research service during its 70th year anniversary celebration at the Manila Peninsula in Makati City. The Abbott E-library is a free, medical journal inquiry service that will give a preliminary group of 350 medical professionals access to Abbott’s collection of scientific publications and studies to help them develop diagnoses and update their knowledge and skills. Roberto Taboada, Abbott International’s general manager, said the E-library is a testament to the pharmaceutical’s core value and goal — the promise for life. “We make it our mission to turn science into products that doctors can use to help save people’s lives. We are devoted to discovering new medicines and new technologies that promote health,” Taboada said. Taboada further attributes the company’s longevity to its unwavering commitment, “life and the pursuit of healthy lives. Charlie Agatep, president and CEO of Agatep Associates, the leading PR consultancy in the Philippines, said the Abbott E-library is key to advancing the country’s health sector. The service could spark social change and give all Filipinos equal access to quality healthcare. The company, on its 70th year in the Philippines, is driven to help advance the country’s medical healthcare to help people maintain healthy lives. Taboada also acknowledged the dedication of medical practitioners in helping uplift the local medical community. Aside from the E-library, Taboada presented two other programs designed to assist physicians and allied medical professionals in their work: the Abbott Cares initiative and the Abbott Partnership Program. The Abbott Cares project is a mobile, health screening program that provides free checkups, laboratory tests and medicine to communities or hospitals. While the Abbott Partnership Program is a hotline which doctors can call to request additional data on clinical studies, product information and samples. Doctors can directly access Abbott staff through the hotline. With the E-library, Abbott Cares and Abbott Partnership Program in place, the challenge is now directed to all medical practitioners. “Making a difference in this world is not so much about resources but about resourcefulness. It is not dependent on what we have at our disposal, as it is upon what were willing to do with what we have,” Agatep said.
