Getting dirty for a good cause
07/08/2007 Environmentalism is a key element in the world we live in, and it’s hard to ignore the urgent call for action. With today’s diverse environmental issues, everyone benefits from environment-friendly activities and programs that others can easily join and support. Starbucks recently played a key role in Earth Day 2007 with a cleanup activity, and continues its efforts with Grounds for Your Garden, in which the waste of coffee grounds are innovatively used as green material to enrich the earth. On a hot, Sunday morning, Starbucks partners, which is how the company refers to all its employees, and their families celebrated Earth Day 2007 by helping clean up an area within the Cultural Center of the Philippines. “Starbucks is committed to the environment – in an effort to raise awareness on the importance of keeping our environment clean, we joined CCP’s clean up activity to celebrate Earth Day this year. A total of 226 Starbucks partners with their friends and family joined,” Ding Bustaliño, head for Marketing, Starbucks Philippines, said. “We take great pride in our work, our partners and how we can all contribute to preserve and improve our environment,” she added. Starbucks in the Philippines is operated by Rustan Coffee Corp., the sole authorized licensee of Starbucks Coffee International. Starbucks Philippines has 111 stores located across the country.
