Handyman Do It Best Best Home Center helps a hands-on mom’s dream dining room, kitchen

02/17/2008

The Galian family’s dining room was drab and dreary and the kitchen, dated and dark. Thanks to Real Living, designer Andrew Galano, some sponsors and Handyman Do It Best Home Center (Handyman) got a redesigned dining room and a new kitchen.

Some things that will catch your attention when you walk into the Galian’s outdated kitchen before the makeover were the dark, decrepit gray cabinets and the stunted storage space. “I really wanted to fix all that for the sake of my children,” Dina confesses.

With Handyman’s Do It Best Select Paints, the white walls accented with yellow-orange cabinets and bright blue full-length curtains instantly gave off a warm, cozy and festive feel. On the dining table are three mats and a flower arrangement which reflected an air of simplicity. An eye-catching framed pop art of Dina and her three children, meanwhile, provides a contemporary flair to the area.

The main plan was to transform the kitchen into a brightly-lit space with a lot of room for storage. Thus a soothing orange-and-white tile combination gave it an illusion of spaciousness. Handyman provided Roman shades for the window, plywood that covered the cupboards, drawer pulls plus the lights and other electrical and construction materials.

Dina is a self-confessed D.I.Y.-er. A mall trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Handyman in Robinsons Ermita. “I love Handyman,” Dina admits. “Aside from having quality merchandise of almost everything DIY-ers like me need, their staff are well-trained and well-mannered. For me, Handyman is the ultimate DIY-er’s shopping paradise.”

Dina only wished for simple things—for the gloom to go away and more storage space. But she got more than what she wished for: a versatile dining space and a chic clutter-free kitchen.
