Towns wins Anvil Award of Excellence

The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (Towns) Foundation has received an Anvil Award of Excellence for “Program–Project Directed at Specific Stakeholders- Women.”

Towns has been chosen “for recognizing outstanding Filipino women who have contributed significantly to nation-building by excelling in their chosen field/industry and raising public awareness on the important role of women in society.”

This is the first time that the Towns Foundation participated in the Anvil Awards, upon the initiative of Aniceto Sobrepeña, president of Metrobank Foundation Inc., which partnered with Towns for the 2007 search.

The award was received by Towns Foundation Inc. president Dr. Imelda Villar, vice president Rosalinda Tirona, and awardee Mel Tiangco of GMA-7, with their PR consultant-cum-photographer Mandy Navasero, and their partners in technical know-how and linkages, Sobrepeña and Metrobank Card Corp. president Tony Maughan.

Towns was founded in 1974 by the late Gov. Manuel G. Alino of the Lions Club International MD 301.

Since its inception, there have been 12 searches with 138 Filipino women recognized nation-ally.

Awardees have undertaken distinguished work in the fields of science, education, communication, arts, law, public administration, diplomatic affairs, humanities, advocacy, public service, cultural integration, rural development, community development, medicine, research, nursing, economics, business entrepreneurship and tourism.
