Jollibee Foundation scholarship program to raise employability of HRS graduates
03/30/2008 Scholarship grants are now available for qualified young people planning a career in the foodservice industry. Jollibee Foundation in partnership with four academic institutions —the University of Makati (Umak, tel. no. 883-1872 to 73), Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC, tel. no. 255-4678), Cavite State University-Indang Campus (CVSU, tel. no. 046-862-1023) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU, tel. no. 062-991-1040 local 122) in Zamboanga — will award tuition fee scholarships to qualified high school graduates taking up courses leading to an Associate Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Services (HRS). Application should be submitted directly to the respective schools not later than April 4 for Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) and April 15 for CKSC, CVSU and UMak. Scholarship applicants must have high school average grade of at least 80 percent, with family income of no more than P120,000 annually, be in good moral standing, with demonstrated leadership capabilities, and must pass the chosen partner school’s entrance exams. Only upon passing the entrance exam can an applicant be considered for scholarship. Final selection will be based on the criteria set by Jollibee Foundation and the partner schools. The scholarship program of Jollibee Foundation dubbed Project ACE (which stands for Access, Curriculum and Employability) seeks to help address unemployment in the country. By working with the partner schools in curriculum enhancement especially the practicum component, students will acquire competencies that will boost their employment chances. Once the scholars have been selected, they will be assigned to particular Jollibee stores for simultaneous practicum training. The paid practicum component of the project will complement the theoretical inputs in school with applied and hands-on experience. Scholars will be required to maintain above average grades and pass periodic assessments of Jollibee store managers. Project ACE is one of the major projects of Jollibee Foundation in cooperation with Jollibee as it marks its 3rd decade in the industry. Jollibee’s 30th anniversary this 2008 is highlighted by a year-long celebration of bringing back its brand heritage, readying it for global expansion and giving more exciting rewards for its consumers. As a way of thanksgiving to the Filipino people, the Jollibee Foundation takes on an active role, seeking to contribute to nation building through various projects in education, housing and community development, leadership deve-lopment and response to calamities.
