10 armed bandits in Sultan Kudarat killed by gov’t forces

Ten members of an armed group operating in Sultan Kudarat were killed yesterday while eight others were wounded after engaging government forces.
Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc, commanding officer of the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion (IB), said joint military and police forces were sent out in Barangay Bual, Isulan town to serve a search warrant when they were fired upon by the group.
The firefight happened at around 6:30 a.m. along Sitio Mantisao.
Cabunoc said that the troops were subjected to heavy gun fires but managed to outmaneuver the armed men.
“The bandits were occupying fortified positions with machinegun emplacements and running trenches. They were ready to confront the security forces,” Cabunoc said.
The troops also captured one of the bandits named Abdul Magid Logioman, alias Black Moro, 41, and seized an M653 Rifle.
On the other hand, Cabunoc said Sgt. David Desidario of the Division Recon Company was injured but was declared out of danger by attending physicians in a local hospital.
Cabunoc said the joint operation was launched after local residents of Chua village in Bagumbayan town had earlier filed a resolution, requesting law enforcement operation against lawless elements terrorizing the area.
