Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. (TMC) announced its global cumulative vehicle production surpassed 200 million units.
This milestone took 76 years and 11 months to reach, beginning with the production of the Model G1 truck in August 1935 at Toyoda Automatic Loom Works Ltd.’s Automotive Department, which was spun off and later became TMC.
As of end of June 2012, cumulative production in Japan totaled 145.21 million vehicles, while overseas production totaled 55.12 million vehicles.
The most produced vehicle is the Toyota Corolla, accounting for 19.5 percent or 39 million units of global cumulative vehicle production.
Marking the achievement, TMC President Akio Toyoda said, “I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our customers the world over who made it possible for us to reach this milestone. I also have the most profound respect and gratitude for the efforts of all persons who were involved in developing, manufacturing, and marketing Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the years. We are determined to make our cars even better, to continue to give our customers the best possible product. This is the common goal of our 300,000 Toyota staff members worldwide.”
Toyota manufacturers worldwide celebrate with TMC on this new achievement, having contributed in one way or another to its attainment. In the Philippines early this year, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) celebrated the production of its 500,00th vehicle.
As the local manufacturing arm of Toyota in the country, TMP re-affirmed its commitment to continue innovating its products and services to meet the dynamic needs of its customers, as well as in contributing to economic development of the country.
TMP currently produces the industry-leading Vios and Innova models.
Since it started manufacturing operations in 1989, the company produced other models such as the Corolla, Corona, Crown, Camry, Lite-Ace, and the popular Tamaraw FX and Revo.
