During the State of the Nation Address delivered by P-noy at the Batasan, several militant organizations such as Bayan, Piston, KMU and its allied NGOs staged protest rallies denouncing the Noynoying ways of P-noy Aquino.Militants brought with them an effigy of P-noy with an elongated nose. They said that P-noy should really have this long nose to show that everytime he speaks about his accomplishments which are really lies, his nose becomes longer and longer like the wooden boy toy Pinocchio.
The militants accused P-noy of fooling the nation as they shouted that P-noy bragged about his accomplishments but the truth is, these were merely sugar-coated motherhood statements. His so-called accomplishments did not in fact trickle down to the vast majority of Filipinos who have remained poor and downtrodden. His alleged economic advancement leading to a growth of 6.4 percent was merely the product of inventions by his new Economic Czar named Balicasan. Had it been true that there was a growth rate of 6.4 percent, why did not Secretary Paderangga of National Economic and Development Authority announce it before he left his post? It took Balicasan to announce it, when the latter was only a few days old in his post. People are wondering if this growth figure could be the handiwork of Mr Diaz of the Land Registration Administration who is adept at exaggerating numbers like what he did to CJ Corona where the latter’s properties were bloated to 45 when in fact he only owned five.
Certainly, this window dressing by Pnoycchio of the changes achieved by his administration is meant to make it appear that his government was successful in fulfilling its obligation to his boss, the people. But when shown side by side with the actual happenings in our country, the militants may be right in accusing P-noy of being a failure. For instance, quoting former Secretary of the Budget, Benjamen Diokno, the enumeration made by Pnoycchio of specific details was nice to listen to, but he missed the big picture. Diokno asked where he will get the funding for his ambitious programs such as the K+12, his universal health care, the questioned Pangtawid program and the Armed Forces modernization. The big ticket programs need very large funding and nothing in Pnocchio’s speech mentioned the sources of funds. Diokno further said that nothing in Pinoycchio’s speech talked about attracting foreign investments, his position on the strengthening of the peso against the dollars, hurting both exporters and the OFWs. And lastly, Pinoycchio was also vague on the issue of agrarian reform. Although he said he will accomplish the mission of a true agrarian reform before his term ends, Diokno said, he missed clarifying if the title to land will be issued to individuals or remain collective in nature. He also did not mention the controversial issue on Hacienda Luisita. Nothing was said that, with the Supreme Court final ruling, the beneficiaries will receive the land and the corresponding title to it. Pnoycchio was expected to announce to all and sundry that he will expedite the land distribution which is being delayed by DAR.
Congressmen were also dismayed by Pnoycchio’s braggadocio of his accomplishments. Deputy Speaker Crispin Remulla said Pnoycchio’s speech is wanting due its failure to provide a roadmap for the future. Rep. Teddy Casiño described the State of the Nation Adress as nothing but smorgasbord of success and selected statistics put together to paint a rosy picture but this one-sided view of his administration’s performance and his feel good anecdotes and glowing numbers are negated by what is shown underground.
For instance, the increase budget for education cited by Pnoycchio is still short of the actual need of the education sector. Pnoycchio also failed to curb high prices and human rights violations, he also failed to pass the freedom of information bill which he promised and most of all, he failed to address the worker’s low pay. On the other hand Rep. Milagros Magsaysay had this to say, Pnoycchio has to check on the figures he stated because it does not match the results conducted by well known polling surveys. While Pnoycchio was making his speech, prices of oil and electricity were going up. The ordinary Juan de la Cruz cannot relate himself with the claimed success Pnoycchio was blurting at Batasan because while he was speaking, stomachs were still growling with hunger.
The militants were right, lies, lies and lies are all they heard from President Aquino, no wonder he has become the new Pinocchio.
And talking of his Sona at the Batasan, BS Aquino wants to impress upon the Filipinos that he is fighting for our nation by insisting that we own the Scarborough Shoal and all the other islands like Spratlys, the turtle islands group etc. etc. True, any Filipino must be patriotic as well as nationalistic. Each one of us should protect our nation. But somehow reality should strike us on how to protect the nation without ourselves hurting and suffering. We should realize that ownership must be imposed upon those who also claimed they are owners too. The question is do we have the capability to impose this ownership on China and Vietnam?
We have no capability of determining China’s military capabilities in the area. Now the question is are we really prepared for war, and honestly, do we believe that the US will really be true to its word? This is the kind of question that should be asked while our leaders are getting to be war freaks.
