The Palace’s reactions on the medical condition of former President, now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, are not only downright irritating and arrogant, but could also be taken as an attempt to play God, toying with one’s life as it establishes itself as the Supreme Decision-maker on whether Mrs. Arroyo still deserves to live.
As cases have already been filed against her in the courts, Mrs. Arroyo is now under the jurisdiction of the judiciary. But with the Palace’s insistence for an independent validation on her medical condition, despite the findings released by her physician, Malacañang and its trained dogs have betrayed their apparent drunkenness with power, thinking they can bend the rules just to suit the political vendetta against the former President, in total disregard of the separation of powers.
This is a clear example of how the Palace is over exerting itself again and trying to influence an independent and co-equal branch of government. For whether they like it or not, only the courts, and not Malacañang, can come up with an independent validation of claims, especially since this administration has made it clear that it wants Mrs. Arroyo punished on unfounded accusations.
Clearly as things are, the more the Palace claims it is distancing itself from Mrs. Arroyo’s case, the more it is exposed as attempting to control the situation, betraying its agenda even before has had made its ruling.
But why should the Palace insist on this independent validation when it is not in a position to doubt Mrs. Arroyo’s condition based on the findings of her own doctors as they are not trained doctors, nor have the Palace occupant and his aides seen her up close, examined her, much more, read her medical records.
If they have doubts on Mrs. Arroyo’s real health condition, they can bring this out at the proper venue, which is the court, and at a proper time when the issue of foreign travel becomes a reality.
But as it is, Mrs. Arroyo has yet to act on the recommendation of her doctor to seek medical treatment overseas.
Dr. Roberto Anastacio, a respected doctor had already bared his findings: That Mrs. Arroyo’s condition had worsened in the past months, courtesy of three unsuccessful operations on her spine. The doctor admitted that based on the condition of the patient, no treatment for her condition is available locally, thus his recommendation that she seeks medical attention either in Austria or the United States.
Of course, he had been rebuked by Dr. Leo Olarte, an orthopedic surgeon and presently the vice president of the Philippine Medical Association, who insists that there are competent doctors in the country who could treat the former president.
Interestingly, like Malacañang’s trained dogs, Dr. Olarte has yet to personally see and examine Mrs. Arroyo. And if it is true as he insists, there are local doctors who are competent enough to treat Mrs. Arroyo, how come he hasn’t bared their names nor that of the hospitals where the former leader could be admitted to?
Clearly, these people do not know what they are talking about. And all they have is this undying obsession to crucify Mrs. Arroyo for allegations which they have never been able to prove through evidence, and which they exaggerated through the help of some media entities which had helped catapult this “noynoying” administration to power.
By prematurely insisting on an independent validation on Mrs. Arroyo’s medical condition, the administration has betrayed its intention to play God and finally put to end Mrs. Arroyo’s life. Clearly, the administration has no interest in making sure the former President stays alive.
As a friend puts it, all throughout her term and until now, Mrs. Arroyo has been villified through unsubstantiated allegations, just exaggerated and amplified by administration-friendly media who skewed the presentation of facts and put malice where there was none. And now that she no longer enjoys the perks of the presidency, she is facing her accusers in court, and in this court, the truth is finally coming out and all allegations against her are unraveling for the very simple reason that they are bereft of facts.
But Mrs. Arroyo could have avoided all these by leaving the country even before she was charged. But the fighter instinct in her prevailed, so she opted not to leave.
And as the truth is beginning to unfold, that all the allegations against her have no solid proof to stand on, the administration had chosen another route, to toy with her life.
