“The Four Chambers of My Heart” is an autobiography of Dr.Camilo I. Porciuncula, a heart doctor, an educator, an artist and a gentleman farmer.
He titled his absorbing book that way because in essence it is the autobiography of four persons in one. The way he is able to be all four at the same time and be equally successful in all four pursuits is remarkable indeed.
What’s even remarkable is that his talents extend beyond all of those four pursuits. “CP,” as he is called by friends and colleagues, also plays the violin and the piano, acts on stage, and plays golf.
His colleagues address him as “Doctor-Doctor” because CP holds two degrees — Doctor of Medicine and Ph.D. in Physiology and Biomedical Engineering, which he obtained from Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.
CP, who’ll be 80 years old on July 18, the day his book is scheduled to be launched, wrote: “When I look back to those years when I had to see and attend to patients in three hospitals, taught medical students, residents and fellows, served in the Philippine Heart Association, managed our farms, paint my favorite subjects, and share my life with my family, I could not help wishing and praying that I’d be allowed to keep on going forever.”
