Aquino lauds private sector efforts in helping DSWD relief ops

President Aquino has lauded private sector efforts to help in relief operations of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) even as he encouraged more vigorous private sector participation to hasten the distribution of goods in flood-stricken areas of Metro Manila and Luzon.
The President issued the call during his inspection of the DSWD operations center in Pasay City recently. He briefly interacted with DSWD volunteers including those from Globe Telecom.
Since the floods hit the metropolis in August 8, about 200 employees of Globe Telecom have trooped to the DSWD-NROC office as volunteers for relief packing operations.
“Employee volunteerism especially in times of natural disasters is embedded in the Globe culture and way of life.  We are proud of our employees who do not fail to respond to requests for volunteers. It is also heartening to witness how they selflessly and readily lend assistance to those in need,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.
As of August 10, the DSWD has already extended almost P11 million worth of relief assistance and continues to accept volunteers who want to help out in the relief efforts.
