Just one Liberal Party candidate made it to the latest Pulse Asia survey for the “Magic 12” which provided an early political forecast for next year’s midterm elections.
Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon was the only LP member who made it to the Pulse Asia’s July 27-30 Metro Manila survey for the Magic 12.
Biazon whom President Aquino
earlier hinted as his preference to form part of the 2013 administration senatorial slate, has yet to officially confirm plans to seek the Senate post as his father, a retired AFP chief of staff and former Sen. Rufino Biazon is reportedly also considering to make a comeback in the Senate running under President Aquino’s ticket.
The young Biazon, who ran but lost in the 2010 national elections, notched the 11th slot.
The failure of LP members to make it in the survey, however, was made up by members of the ruling coalition.
Topping the survey are Senators Francis Escudero who is believed to have joined the LP coalition and Loren Legarda of the NPC, who will run under the UNA banner.
The survey also had administration party guest candidate Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III of the PDP-Laban landing in eighth place, while LDP’s Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara settled at ninth.
Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV of Sen. Manny Villar’s NP which is with the ruling coalition also made it to the top 12. Cayetano bagged the fourth spot while Trillanes was at sixth.
LDP and NP are expected to formally forge its alliance with ruling coalition soon.
UNA which is expected to field a full slate for the Senate race had Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s son Cagayan Rep. Jackie Enrile notching the third spot, while Sen. Gregorio Honasan secured the fifth position.
Former President Joseph Estrada’s son San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito landed seventh while former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri was running 12th.
Come-backing former senator Richard Gordon, whom UNA had confirmed to be in its lineup, settled for the 10th place.
