The talent search ends with Artista Academy!
Fast-paced, glossy and entertaining, Artista Academy has aired nightly except Sundays over TV5 at 9:30 p.m. The show finally unfolded its full power during the announcement of the eight male and eight female students by Cesar Montano last Saturday night.  
What makes Artista Academy credible is the selection by dyed-in-the-wool television industry stalwarts known as the executive committee (execom): Wilma Galvante was head of GMA-7 Television Entertainment before she retired and set up the Asian Academy of Television Arts (AATA) as head; renowned TV and film director Mac Alejandre is now TV5 Talent Center head; and Percy Intalan is innovative head of TV5 Creative and Entertainment Production.
They searched for talents with star potential, not merely talents with exceptional skills, which Artista Academy's competitors seemed to focus on. Its select-and-train concept is also original, unlike the others, which are templates of American Idol. Selection of students has also been thorough, made possible by consistent criteria by the same set of judges.
Out of the 13,000 who trooped to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for Artista Academy's one-day grand auditions on June 19, only 300 advanced to the next level. After a series of screenings and meticulous elimination of the execom, the number was trimmed down to 74 with only 42 candidates remaining to face the final cut.
Competing for P20 million worth of total prizes and the chance to live the glamorous artista life in what is deemed as the grandest and most intensive talent search on Philippine television, the following emerged as the Top 16 finalists: Akihiro Blanco (Pasig), Alberto Bruno (Marikina), Benjo Leoncio (Cebu), Brent Manzano (Quezon City), Chanel Morales (Bacolod), Chris Leonardo (Laguna), Jon Orlando (Quezon City), Julia Quisumbing (Makati), Malak So Shdifat (Manila), Mark Neumann (Quezon City), Marvelous Alejo (Valenzuela), Nicole Estrada (Pasig), Shaira Mae (Las Piñas City), Sophie Albert (Mandaluyong), Stephanie Rowe (Pampanga) and Vin Abrenica (Pampanga).
All 16 finalists will be given full scholarship to AATA to undergo a comprehensive curriculum-based training with the best and highly esteemed professionals in the industry, including multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan, music master Louie Ocampo, dance guru Georcelle Dapat of G Force.
By competition end, Artista Academy will announce the Best Actor and Best Actress who will be P20 million rich plus lead roles in a forthcoming TV5 drama series. Not only will they be certified professional actors after they finish their course from AATA, they will also be the richest winners in the country's history of all talent searches.
Artista Academy airs from Monday to Saturday after Wil Time Bigtime. Marvin is the reality host who shares with viewers the 16 students' journey every night while Cesar takes charge as the Live Exam Presentor every Saturday. Sitting in as Live Exam Critics are Lorna Tolentino, Gelli de Belen and Mac Alejandre.

TALK: Zsa Zsa Padilla on being sick with cancer
Zsa Zsa Padilla gives life to the role of Elaine Fuentebella, the wife of Nick Fuentebella (as played by Gary Valenciano), in the new Studio 5 and Unitel Productions I Do Bidoo Bidoo: Heto nAPO Sila with Eugene Domingo and Ogie Alcasid as megged by blockbuster director Chris Martinez. The movie is set to open nationwide on Aug. 29.
Zsa Zsa admits to experiencing so many new things in this movie. She bravely marches forward knowing life has to go on even as she rises from the ashes of a tumultuous personal experience throughout the making of this film.

The buzz is you're sick daw with cancer.
Hopefully not kasi tinatanong ko sa doctor ko na pag-may cancer ba kahit mangangayayat ka talaga kahit stage one, tapos sabi niya, "oo naman"… kaya I'm out. (Laughter.)

How do you feel?
Mabilis akong mapagod, napapansin ko, meron akong, I don't know if it is associated with my kidney problem. Sabi kasi ng iba "alam mo matagal ka pang makaka-recover dahil sa dami ng hospitalization (ni Dolphy) ngayon mo lang mararamdaman yan yung tapos na ang lamay yung ganyan, ganyan..,," yan naman ang sabi ng iba. Kaya lang nga meron akong mga health issues hindi ko alam kung alin dun nga.

Sure na ang surgery?
Sure na ang surgery, oo may ticket na ako eventually ang mangyayari ang buong kidney mo magiging mass na lang .

Are you afraid?
Hindi kaya!…I'm not afraid.

So is it really cancer?
Most of the time naman kasi hindi siya cancer... pero kailangan siyang tanggalin. Pagtanggal sa kanya kumbaga part of your kidney hindi na siya magde-deliver o nag-generate. Kumbaga maging ¾ na lang yung kidney mo nagpapa-function pa naman siya kasi dalawa yung kidney mo pero yun part nila na tatanggalin, saka nila titignan kung cancer siya.

How deep?
Hindi naman kailangan na biyakin. Meron naman silang robot yung parang butas-butas pero malalalim din yan kasi yung kay Dolphy dito sa likod. Malalim yun. Pero actually may tahi na ako front and back kaya I don't really care. (Laughter.) Pero syempre kung sasabihin nilang mas minimally invasive yung robot syempre yun ang gugustuhin mo.

Dolphy underwent the same robot (procedure) in the US ?
