Davaoeños learn more, live more with inaugural Smart technology festival

The future of education is fun—and digital! That’s the spirit of   Smart’s inaugural Technology Festival held at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) in Davao, where students and IT practitioners soaked up on hackathons, gadget and service demos, tech talks and learning sessions with ICT and technopreneurship experts. The tech fest came on the heels of the wireless leader’s completion of its network upgrade, providing Davao and the rest of the country, the benefits of Smart’s turbo-charged mobile network.

Power app!
The festival was kicked off with the HTML5 DevDay Davao—the first of its kind in Mindanao.   Computer programmers, project managers, graphic and interface designers collaborated intensively and flexed their digital muscles to produce web and mobile apps.
The next award-winning app could be in the making now!

Internet in your pocket
During the mobile Internet education sessions in the university’s College of Technology, students discovered gems in their own pockets—blazing fast and convenient Internet access using Internet-capable cellphones powered by Smart.
Through special mobile internet modules, USEP students were able to immerse themselves into the wonders of the worldwide web. Smart-powered mobile browsing demos, also allowed USEP students to access a wide array of websites that they normally would access using a regular desktop computer.

Students also got a sneak peek of all the latest and exciting offers from   PLDT and Smart such as the Smart TriNet Unli 40, FlexiSurf offerings, and Smart’s newest Freedom Plan,   through demos from the country’s first high-tech playground—Jump! Smart capped its inaugural technology festival with the IdeaSpace: Technopreneur Bootcamp. After making pitstops in key cities and universities in the country, the boocamp gathered   techno geeks in Davao to work on their startup ideas, and to help transform these into successful commercial products.
The week-long festival powered by Smart, underscores the company’s commitment to the bright ICT future of the region and of the country.
