A mega action film hard to resist!

BUZZBLAST 1! Actor Edgar Sandalo exposed and protested the road construction at the La Mesa Dam watershed where a housing project is planned, putting Metro Manila’s only source of potable water in great danger. After being given the run around by government officials, he has finally found a staunch ally. He approached Gina Lopez of Bantay Kalikasan (BK) and made a breakthrough! BK head Dave Pardo did an ocular observation and found out the area is part of the 58 hectares that the Quezon City government has committed to Lopez’s cause would be development-free.

BUZZBLAST 2! Artista Academy student Shaira Mae had an emergency. While attending a class, she was rushed to the hospital due to stress and overfatigue. The pressure of intense training caused her heart rate to peak at 98 beats per minute. Normal is 60 to 100. The latter is usually after an extreme activity; hers was 98 at rest, requiring immediate medical attention.

BUZZBLAST 3! Will Miss World Philippines 2012 Queneerich Rehman be the country’s first Miss World? Support her bid by watching TV5’s live coverage of the grand coronation tonight after Untold Stories.

The Expendables 2 is explosive action right from the very start! From start to finish, this was my feeling from the preview last Wednesday at the Robinsons Galleria Cinema 6 screening, which opened in metro cineplexes on Thurday and is enjoying record attendances.
Loaded with superstar power, the movie is headlined by Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture, who enter with a bang and continue at a blistering pace. Better keep your eyes glued to the screen for the revelation of the characters of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Yu Nan, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
One Expendable is murdered during a mission assigned by Mr. Church (Willis). There is no question why the rest of The Expendables take revenge. “Track him. Find him. Kill him” turns out to be the mission statement of Barney (Stallone) for the enemy. Jean Vilain (Van Damme) gets to steal weapons-grade plutonium. Church orders Barney: “Tear him apart!”
Director Simon West (Con Air) knew exactly what he was doing. He mixed the high-powered battles with the cast’s amusing banters. Seeing the iconic Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis and Norris fighting side-by-side is classic! The chops of Jet Li and the killer moves of Statham are amazing. Liam provides a striking contrast to the legends, while his character’s backstory gives heart to this flick. Yu Nan adds asset to the group.
A must-watch film while waiting for the rains to halt, the floods to recede or to have no-hassle fun and thrill!

Newer Pinoy films not ‘greatest’ quality
None of the local full-length features shot after 1984 made it to Buzzstation’s top 10 list of greatest Filipino film of all time list. This means none of the films made after the period is strong enough to make it to the best survey.
Based on the just concluded survey, the best Filipino films of the last 30 years by the Mga Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino only changed by at least 30 percent. In 2002, the organization of Filipino critics voted the following films in chronological order:
1. Maynila: Sa Kuko ng Liwanag (1975)
2. Insiang (1976)
3. Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? (1976)
4. Nunal Sa Tubig (1976)
5. City After Dark (1980)
6. Kisapmata (1981)
7. Himala (1982)
8. Alpha Kappa Omega Batch ’81 (1982)
9. Orapronobis (1989)
10, Bayaning 3rd World (2000)

This Buzzstation survey of filmmakers and entertainment journalists, on the other hand, shortlisted the following films (with *** also in the Manunuri list) numbered according to respondent choices:

1. Himala (1982)***
2. Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974)
3. Maynila: Sa Kuko ng Liwanag (1975)***
     4. Oro Plata Mata (1982)
     5. Kisapmata (1981)***
     6. Sister Stella L (1984)***
     7. Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos (1976)
     8. Manila by Night (1980)***
     9. Insiang (1976)***
     10. Kakabakaba Ka Ba? (1980)

The drastic changes between the two lists maybe due to the younger demographics of the respondents of the newer survey, the longer time span of the survey — from 30 to 40 years — and the difference in specialization.

Basics of new beauty technology on Salamat Dok
From politicians to entertainers, stem cell therapy is the current rage for looking young and beautiful.
This weekend, Dr. Eloisa Buse, managing physician of the Belo Medical Group Medical Plaza, will discuss on Salamat Dok,” some of the most popular beauty enhancement technology and procedures that can help people realize their full potential as far as looking and feeling great goes. Among them is stem cell therapy.
Updated with the latest, Dr. Buse will talk about Stem Cell Auto Grafting, a new and safe technique that uses the patient’s own fat and adult stem cells to fill up and improve the sunken areas of the face, it corrects the lost volume and rejuvenates the aging face.
The second is PRP Rejuvenation in which the patient’s own plasma is injected under the skin with the implication that growth factors in this liquid stimulate rejuvenation. Result? Fuller and tighter skin through a procedure that’s safe and even improves depressed scars.
Thermage, a non-invasive treatment that can tighten skin and renew facial contour, delivers results even after just one treatment versus laser procedures that require four or more sessions.
The Belo Medical Group has also included in its Salamat Dok  feature as hosted by Bernadette Sembrano on Aug. 18 at 6 a.m., Botox Masseter that can make the face smaller. Like the Thermage, the procedure is non-invasive and painless. It is ideal for those who want “facial re-shaping” without surgery.
