A new generation of ultrabooks, the thinnest and smartest bunch of Wi-Fi laptop series from Samsung, Acer and Lenovo that came out this June, have sparked pocket debates on which of these remarkably thin, light and fast-booting laptops will be a hot with increasingly tech-savvy Filipino consumers.
A close scrutiny of the ultrabook specifications will tell you more in detail.
Weighing only 1.31kg, Samsung's new 13.31-inch Series 9 ultrabooks can pass for an actual notebook. It is so thin that you can slip it in and out of a small backpack, and yet so efficient you can get online in less than eight seconds. The WiFi notebook's 1.73cm thickness, which was obviously patterned after Intel's ultrabook specifications, sells with Intel's third-generation Ivy Bridge Corei5 (2537M) processor, which is bundled with a mean 4G RAM and a 128GB SSD hardware upgrade.
Lenovo's new Ideapad U310 ultrabook highlights the Ivy Bridge's Corei7 processor. It may sound high-tech, but it just means that it is slightly faster than the other Ivy Bridge Core i3 and i5, offering the same seamless multitasking or browsing experience intended for the pleasure of a typical Windows 7 operating system setup. The Ideapad is about 18mm thick, but this one weighs only 1.7kg, the closest thing to the nearly weightless features of the new Mac Pro/Air series launched last week. Apart from the 4GB RAM, Lenovo added with its latest ultrabook an inviting 500GB HDD and 32GsB SSD cache, bigger internal hardware capacities designed for efficient and definitely faster PC performances. It has a 720p HD front camera, but the series 9 Samsung notebook, based on its initial full high-definition launch testing last Monday, seems to offer the ideal crisp photo/video resolution for a full scale LD TV (HD) preview.
Acer's pretty and lavishly finished Core i7 (WiFi) ultrabook, the Aspire S5, is only 13.3 inches, a stunning design improvement from last year's Aspire S3 ultrabook. It sports the familiar size of a typical bond paper, a winning laptop engineering the Taiwanese computer manufacturer insisted is what makes its energy efficient ultrabook series the thinnest in its Acer class. It is a contested ultrabook title even Samsung had already claimed for its fast booting "consumer valued" Series 9 ultrabook, which is being marketed locally for its easy multimedia-friendly connectivity options.
The Aspire S5's 1.90gHz processor is seamless, including its built-in multi-gesture touch pad, pretty much ranging with what specifications Lenovo or Samsung has offered their ultrabook series with either Intel's top selling Ivy Bridge Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. These virus size chips, for those with post-paid internet plans, are so powerful they can do internal software and e-mail updating even on sleep mode or when the ultrabook is turned off! Computers running Ivy Bridge could support three monitors, which is perfect in overseeing overlapping post-production materials.
The 22 nanometer intel chip has an interesting anti loss or theft program that could remotely shut down a stolen computer's hardware, rendering it completely useless without the correct encrypted password. These branded ultrabooks, all factory programmed with either basic or the premium Windows 7 operating systems, have more than enough external (flashdrive, HDMI) ports/ terminals to begin with. Acer did a complete remodel of these ports by placing these options instead at the back of the S5. It gave the Aspire S5 a cleaner outlook, completely wireless free from a distance, but there is a bit of concern fitting an ultrabook's multiple ports in one area where the power socket might cause it to heat up with prolonged usage, possibly resulting in electrical shock.
How ever they are able to simplify everyone's internet-hooked lifestyle, the choice remains with the consumers as to which one gives the better pricing and post-sale servicing options.
Maroon 5 releases next single
Be the first to hear Maroon 5's new single "One More Night" as they play it live today on American television. "One More Night" is included in the band's current album, Overexposed, which is Maroon 5's first recording stint minus Jesse Carmichael, who took an indefinite leave from the pop-rock band to study music and undergo spiritual healing. Maroon 5, which is set to do its fourth gig in the Philippines this coming August and, hopefully, shed light regarding Carmichael's future with the band on The Today Show, is temporarily being reinforced by Grammy Award-winning writer and solo artist PJ Morton.
