23,247 graduating college students benefit from Caloocan’s LEGS project

Some 23,247 graduating college students benefitted from the Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) project carried out by the Caloocan City government which was primarily aimed at helping students prepare and get hired for employment.
Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri said the program was done in coordination with Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas under its president, Councilor Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri, the mayor’s son.
The city’s Labor and Industrial Relations Office reported that 23,247 graduating college students took part in the program from 2008 up to the present.
In 2008, 1,209 graduating college students participated in the LEGS program; 14,300 (2009); 1,889 (2010); 2,341 (2011), and 3,508 (current year), it said in a report to the mayor.
Under the LEGS program, students are taught about interview, personality development, speech, dress code and other requirements needed when job-hunting.
Apart from the LEGS program, the local government’s Career Coaching Seminar also helped 42,143 high school students choose the right course in college.
Another job-related program of the mayor is the Special Program for Employment of Students which has assisted 6,458 students since 2005.
“The local government has been focusing on programs that benefit our students. I strongly believe that the projects and programs my administration has started will be also continued by our youth when they become leaders in the future,” said the mayor who is on his third and last term as city chief executive.   Arlie O. Calalo
