The Caloocan City government has stepped up its disaster preparedness program as Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri alerted its rescue teams in anticipation of emergency cases during typhoons and calamities.
This as Echiverri said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) checked the city’s rescue program on disasters, especially when typhoons hit the area.
After the inspection, the DILG gave the local government a seal of approval when it comes to disaster preparedness, said Echiverri who is the national chairman of the League of Cities of the Philippines.
According to the DILG’s inspection team, the Caloocan government has effective anti-disaster programs as it cited its number of equipment and other devices that are available and can be readily used for emergency cases despite fewer cases of flooding in the area during rainy season.
In line with this, Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas president and Councilor Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri encouraged barangay officials nationwide to bring whistles which they will use in alerting residents during emergency cases.
Councilor RJ asked barangay men to use whistles which would serve as a warning device during his first term as LBP president.
The Caloocan mayor said the disaster preparedness program is one of the major priorities of his administration, particularly during rainy season.
Echiverri has tapped schools and barangays officials to conduct regular drills in case emergency situations arise.
He also directed the barangays to intensify their information campaign on disasters to help prevent casualties.
