Quezon City Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista directed yesterday the concerned local officials to closely coordinate with the heads of the two large hospitals for possible assistance to hundreds of patients confined at the hospitals which are still submerged in floodwaters.
The mayor, during a meeting with members of the QC disaster risk reduction management council, specifically instructed Quezon City General Hospital director Antonio Cabigas to get in touch with the medical directors of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center (UERM) and the Delos Santos Medical Center along Aurora Boulevard.
He wants to sure that assistance shall be made available to them by the city government as the need arises especially if there is a need to transfer the patients.
“QC General Hospital is ready to offer its medical services to patients affected by floodwaters at UERM and De los Santos Medical Center,” Cabigas said.
“QCGH has state-of-the art medical equipment which has capable to provide more effective medical services to those in need,” he said during the same DRRMC meeting held at the City Hall Complex.
Meanwhile, the city government, on orders of the mayor, will also be providing water and food to some of the patients affected by floodwaters at the two large hospitals.
The social services development department, headed by Teresa Mariano, will oversee the provision of food assistance, according to the city chief executive.
As this developed, Mariano said, upon instruction of the mayor, the local government will be providing burial assistance to the nine landslide victims who perished in the wake of the torrential rains spawned by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” in Litex Road , Barangay Commonwealth.
“We are readying all the assistance Mayor Bautista has assured to be provided to the victims of the landslide,” Mariano said.
