At least 131 passengers flirted with death after the right engine of an Airbus A320 aircraft they were riding conked out on midair but landed safely at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport yesterday morning.
Cebu Pacific flight 5J454 from Iloilo City was on its final approach at the Manila Airport when the right engine of the plane encountered problem.
The incident happened at 11:18 am, 11 minutes prior to its expected time of arrival of the aircraft.
The plane’s pilot, Capt. Benjamin Baquiano radioed the Manila Control Tower and asked for an emergency landing.
NAIA’s Fire and Rescue Department as well as the NAIA Ramp Control were dispatched along the runway while waiting for the aircraft to land.
“With only one engine running, Capt. Baquiano with the aid of First Officer C. Benconsejo and Flight Engineer K.F. Dimagiba, managed to maneuver the aircraft and lined itself for landing at the airport’s Runway 24. At exactly 11:21, the Airbus A320 jet with registry number RP-C3243 touched down safely, to the relief of the airport emergency crew,” according to the airport report.
All the passengers were safe but many were shaken but unhurt.
