The House of Representatives should not only honor the “known” and the “great” Filipinos but also the “unsung heroes” who have risked their lives in rescuing the victims of the recent monsoon rains.
According to Ako Bicol party-list Reps. Rodel Batocabe and Alfredo Garbin, it is imperative upon the House to appreciate the efforts of those who have put their lives on the line for their countrymen.
“These volunteers are brave, kindhearted souls who risked their lives to rescue others in danger,” House Resolution 2644 states.
Among those that are being eyed by the resolution are the rescue teams from the Philippine Navy, Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, the Bureau of Fire Protection and Local Government Units.
Those from the private sector would also be included in the resolution.
“The rescuers symbolize the Filipino tradition of Bayanihan. We have so many stories of Filipinos who help complete strangers in times of adversity like this. This goes to show this very Filipino trait of being helpful to others in need,” Garbin and Batocabe said.
The rescuers, they said, in many instances have given up their lives to save those who are in danger. Gerry Baldo
