Chairman Francis Tolentino promoted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic constable who was mauled by an irate motorist last Saturday in Quezon City.
This was disclosed by MMDA Traffic Constable 1 Saturnino Fabros who said he already signed the papers promoting him the other day at the MMDA office making him Traffic Constable 2 that would give him a pay raise.
Aside from the promotion, Fabros, who started 27 years ago as a painter at the former Metro Manila Commission, was allowed by Tolentino to rest for a few days so he can recover.
Fabros, who has six children, thanked Tolentino for his promotion because it will greatly help his family.
The enforcer said with the increase in his pay he might be able to send all his children, all girls, to school. “Pinatigil ko muna sa pag-aaral ‘yung panganay ko kasi kulang ang pera,” Fabros said.
Last Wednesday, the MMDA lodged a criminal complaint against Robert Blair Carabuena and his brother Robert Benjamin for direct assault.
Both brothers were charged as principals for the assault on Fabros, MMDA traffic discipline office head Yves Gonzalez said.
The MMDA also sought to revoke Blair’s license and demanded a public apology from him.
In a statement, Tolentino “condemned to the highest degree the physical assault” by Blair on Fabros who, he said, was just doing his job.
A video aired on television and posted online showed Fabros being berated and hit by Carabuena. With Pat C. Santos
