Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director-General Nicanor Bartolome yesterday vowed to continue the changes which Interior and Local Govenment Secretary Jesse Robredo had started in the police force, giving emphasis on the fight against “jueteng” or the illegal numbers game.
Bartolome, in a chance interview with media at the Naga Airport while waiting for the plane bearing Robredo’s casket to arrive, said he already issued a directive to the PNP regional and provincial directors to immediately stop reported jueteng operations in the Bicol Region which allegedly resumed after Robredo’s death.
“I have ordered the regional and provincial directors of PNP, especially in this province to immediately report jueteng operations,” he said.
When Robredo became city mayor of Naga City, he successfully stopped the operations of the illegal numbers game in the province.
“I have never received jueteng money ever since I work in the PNP so I have every right to order the police force to stop this illegal numbers game,” Bartolome said.
“This I vow to the late DILG Secretary whom I have high respect,” he said.
The PNP chief also vowed to continue the system of governance that Robredo had started to implement in the PNP.
