Relative identifies woman who was run over by LRT-1 train

Police have identified the woman who committed suicide by jumping onto the tracks of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) while a train was approaching  at its Edsa station early Thursday morning.
A relative identified the woman as Lucy Aroma, 52, a resident of Barangay 184 in Maricaban, Pasay City.
She was jobless and single and was identified through a birthmark in the arm, police report said.
Investigation showed Aroma jumped into the tracks and was run over by an oncoming train shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday.
LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said their closed-circuit television footage showed the woman jumped onto the tracks immediately after the platform guard walked past her.
The incident disrupted LRT-1 operations, forcing the LRTA to bypass the Edsa station. Many commuters were stranded as a result of the incident.
Cabrera said the suicide was the 10th since the LRT-1 started operations in 1984.
He added while there had been 19 suicide attempts since the LRT-1 started operations in 1984, 10 resulted in death.
The LRT-1 connects Roosevelt in Quezon City and Baclaran in southern Metro Manila. Jason Faustino
