Malabon mayor embarks on project vs criminals

The Malabon City government has embarked on a project that would help policemen and barangay law enforcers manage crime prevention easier and more stress-free, acting Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta III said over the weekend.
He added the massive lighting project intends to illuminate dimly-lit thoroughfares and streets all over the city.
More importantly, the project aims to scare away criminals such as holdup men, snatchers and muggers from victimizing the unwary public, according to Oreta.
“It will not only curb crime, but it will surely boost business in Malabon,” he said, adding that if residents before had complained of increased crimes in areas that are not lit, now it would be a thing of the past with the lighting up project.
He stressed the project was an “add on” to the already existing “pailaw” of the city government all over Malabon.
By putting more, additional lights on the streets only meant that the local administration was “very serious in our fight against criminals,” Oreta said.
According to City Engineer Edgar  Yanga, they already completed the lighting up works along Pampano Street, from C-4 Road to Lapu-Lapu Avenue; Maya-Maya Street, from Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, to Pampano Street; Lapu-Lapu Avenue from Dagat-Dagatan Avenue to Pampano Street  and Dagat-Dagatan Avenue from Letre Road to C-4 Road — all located  in Barangay Longos;
Naval Street, from Women’s Club to M. Blas Extension in Barangay Hulong Duhat;  Don. B. Baustista Boulevard, from Sto. Rosario church to Pinagkabalian Bridge in Dampalit and P. Aquino Street, from Sanciangco Street, to Lascano Street, in Barangay Tonsuya.
Yanga said works are ongoing for the illumination of Muzon Bridge, A. Reyes Street, in Baritan; Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, from C-4 Road to Lapu-Lapu Avenue, also in Longos; University Avenue from Gov. Pascual Avenue to MacArthur Highway, Orange Road, Durian and Avocado Roads in Barangay Potrero.
City engineers have also scheduled the repairs and rehabilitation of damaged streetlights at Catmon Bridge; M.H. del Pilar Street, from Rodriguez Street, to Arkong Bato in Barangay Santulan; along Gov. Pascual Avenue from Gen. Luna Street, to Lambingan Bridge in Barangays Baritan and Concepcion; Yanga Street, from Tongco Street to Tinajeros Bridge in Barangay Maysilo; Pinagtipunan Circle in Potrero; Rodriguez Street, from M.H. del Pilar Street, to Mabolo Street, in Santulan; Sacristia Street to F. Sevilla Boulevard, in Barangay San Agustin; F. Sevilla Boulevard to Estrella Street and Estrella Bridge in Barangay Tañong.
Village leaders hailed the lighting up project of acting Mayor Oreta, saying this would surely help them control crime in their respective barangays.
No less than Councilor Paulo Oreta, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and son of Mayor Canuto “Tito” Oreta, who has been on leave due to a lingering illness, was all praises for the latest project of the city government.
“This will surely help all of us here in the city in curbing lawlessness and keeping peace and order all over Malabon,” the barangay league head said.
