Caloocan City Hall exec slain, wife wounded in ambush

An official of the Caloocan City government was shot dead by three motorcycle-riding men while his physician-wife was seriously wounded yesterday morning in Barangay Bagumbong.
This as Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri, after learning of the incident, put up P200,000 cash reward for anyone who can provide the police vital information, especially on the whereabouts of the three attackers.
Senior Supt. Jude Wilson Santos, police chief, said he immediately dispatched a special crack team to go after the three gunmen who shot and killed Bobby Merrera, the officer-in-charge of the city’s Environmental Sanitation Services (ESS) at Caloocan City Hall North.
Quoting an initial report, Santos said the victim already expired before he could reach a nearby hospital due to gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.
Meanwhile, his wife, Dr. Beng Merrera, who sustained a bullet wound in the stomach, is being treated at an undisclosed hospital, Santos said.
The Station Investigation Division of the local police said the shooting incident happened along Narra Street, Rainbow Village 5, Bagumbong at around 10 a.m.
Police said the slain victim was driving his white Isuzu Crosswind vehicle (ZTE-388) with his wife at the front seat when the armed suspects opened fire at them.
The suspects, who were on board a motorcycle, fled to an unknown direction, case officers said.
Echiverri in a statement strongly condemned the ambush-slay as he ordered the police to step up the hunt for  the suspects.
Asked about the motive of the incident, Santos said the police have yet to establish clues to the ambush-slay.
He said investigators will verify if the killing has something to do with his work as OIC of ESS at the City Hall North.
