Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is an effective leader and deserves a seat in the Senate, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has said.
Marcos, who was in Cebu recently, said he would support Garcia’s senatorial bid in next year’s elections.
“Of course, I’ll be happy to help Gov. Garcia if she has a plan for the national stage. I can help her in my own way,” he said.
Marcos described Garcia, who is in her third and last term as governor, as a results-driven politician.
“She’s effective. She’s able to do what needs to be done and gets results. That’s what the people want,” he said.
Garcia has announced her intention to run for the Senate under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay. Her younger brother, Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd District), will run for governor.
Marcos said Garcia’s long experience in local governance will help her in her senatorial bid.
If Garcia wins, Marcos said it will not be difficult adjusting with her in the Senate because they have worked together in the past. He said he is grateful to Garcia for supporting his senatorial candidacy in 2010.
“I remember that she endorsed me as a senator during the last campaign and that was a big help for me. So, as a grateful person, of course, I will do what I can do to help her,” Marcos said.
