Ex-US Army soldier runs amuck

A former US army man ran amuck and attacked a policeman in San Pedro, Laguna on Friday morning.
San Pedro police chief Supt. Kirby Kraft identified the amok as Mervin Capane, 29, a former US Army soldier.
On Friday, at around 4 a.m., Capane slipped into his neighbor’s house in Barangay Magsaysay and attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself.
The neighbor, Jonjon Espino, saw and tried to stop Capane but the former soldier ran after him with a knife.
Espino sought the help of village watchmen, who in turn sought police assistance when they failed to calm Capane down.
One of the responding policemen, Police Officer 1 Jeffrey Sarinas, ordered Capane to drop  his knife but Capane instead attacked the cop and hit Sarinas in the foot.
This prompted Sarinas to shoot the suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds in his stomach and shoulder.
Capane was taken to the University of Perpetual Help hospital in Biñan City to undergo an operation.
