The Technical Education and Skills Development Administration (Tesda), in partnership with the business-process outsourcing (BPO) industry, will offer scholarships and other assistance to develop skills or qualifications with high demand and meeting international standards.
The scholarships will be awarded under the memorandum of agreement (MoA) between the Tesda and the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) signed by Tesda director general Secretary Joel Villanueva and BPAP chairman Alfredo Ayala in October 2011.
To create a more supportive environment for the continued growth of the Philippine information technology and BPO industries, President Aquino, through the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) provided P500 million for the BPO sector. Implementation of this program is embodied in the MoA.
The Tesda has strengthened its partnership with the IT-BPO sector by means of its training institution, the National TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) Trainers Academy in Marikina City that teaches the Trainer’s Methodology (TM) Level I training program to different participants from the BPO sector through the Industry-based Training for Work Scholarship Program (I-TWSP).
The training program is being conducted to develop a pool of “core trainers” of TM Level I to increase the training capacity of BPO companies. PNA
