The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) will be holding its entrance examination on Sunday, Aug. 26, in 37 testing centers all over the country.
Qualified are natural-born Filipino citizens, physically fit, single and never been married, must be at least 17 years old but not a day older than 22 years on April 1 of the year following the date of examination, a high school graduate with a general grade average of 85 percent or higher.
For this year, PMA lowered the minimum height requirement to 5’0” for both male and female from 5’4" for male and 5’2” for female.
According to PMA superintendent Major General Nonato Peralta Jr, the lowering of height prerequisite is expected to bring about increase in the number of applicants.
“It has been observed that during the conduct of the limited physical examination on previous PMA entrance examination, many were denied the chance to go through the first phase of the selection process solely for the reason of not meeting the height requirement,” Peralta said.
“Now, we will be increasing the pool where the best candidate for PMA cadetship will be selected,” he added.
The exam covers algebra and geometry, grammar and composition, reading comprehension, verbal and numerical reasoning and pattern analysis.
All cadets of PMA are granted full scholarship and will receive salary and allowances while studying for four years to earn a degree of Bachelor of Science and a chance to study abroad after graduation, Peralta revealed.
After graduation from the academy, cadets are directly commissioned as regular officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and will be joining any of the three branches of service of their choice — Army, Navy or Air Force. PIA
