San Beda not taking Perpetual Help’s challenge lightly

Games Thursday
(The Arena, San Juan City)
10 a.m. — Letran vs EAC (Jrs.)
12 noon — Mapua vs Lyceum (Jrs.)
2 p.m. — San Beda vs Perpetual Help (Jrs.)
4 p.m. — Mapua vs Lyceum (Srs.)
6 p.m. — San Beda vs Perpetual Help (Srs.)

The fact that San Beda College was able to score a victory despite playing with a depleted line-up has made the Red Lions all the more dangerous when playing as a complete team.
The irony of it though is that the very coach of the Red Lions — Ronnie Magsanoc — is the one sounding cautious now that the Red Lions have become everybody’s target in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Magsanoc is particularly wary of a University of Perpetual Help System Dalta team that’s sporting a new look under a returning coach in Aric del Rosario.
“We have to maintain our intensity,” said Magsanoc, whose Lions go up against the Altas at 6 p.m at the Arena in San Juan City today.
“Iba na ang takbo ng Altas dahil kay coach Aric (del Rosario) who still has a lot of passion and pride and that helps motivates his players to play their best,” added Magsanoc.
The Red Lions, who managed to beat a complete team like Arellano University despite having only six players, will actually gun for their third straight win in their bid to catch up with Jose Rizal College at the top of standings.
Mapua Institute of Technology tries to sustain its own streak as it plays Lyceum of the Philippines University in a battle between neighbor schools at 4 p.m.
The Cardinals, playing with only nine players, pulled off back-to-back victories after dropping their first assignment to solo leader JRU Bombers. The Intramuros-based dribblers defeated College of Saint Benilde, 64-55 (July 5) and Emilio Aguinaldo College, 67-63 (July 9) to share the third to fifth places with San Sebastian College and UPHSD Altas at 2-1.
Mapua coach Chito Victolero will have to draw the best anew from his nine-player rotation if they are to score their third win in four games.
Mapua has been using only nine players since their four rookies in the team are still in the process of producing the pertinent papers that would make them eligible in this 88th season of the glamor league.
