Two British officials have expressed their best wishes to Filipino athletes — all 11 of them — who will plunge into action in the London Olympics which is a scant 15 days away from its opening.
“I wish the Filipino athletes and every Olympian good luck,” said Trevor Lewis, charge d’ affairs of the British government in the Philippines.
He also assured that the security of all participating athletes and officials will be the paramount consideration during the conduct of the Games.
“We will never be complacent. It may never be perfect but it’s something that we will be very vigilant about,” added Lewis, referring to the security concerns.
Colin Glen, strategic communication head of the British Embassy, for his part, exhorted the Filipino athletes who made it to the quadrennial games, saying “their (athletes) having qualified (for the Olympics) is an achievement already.”
The two British officials were special guests when Solar Sports, through its president (Wilson Tieng) and chief executive officer (Peter Chanliong), formally declared its readiness to bring the London actions 24/7, beginning with the opening ceremony on July 27 up to the closing rites on Aug. 13.
“This is the second time Solar (Sports) is on a comprehensive coverage of the most celebrated sports event — the summer Olympics — first in Beijing 2008,” said Tieng yesterday at the Hotel Sofitel.
“The competition in the Olympics will be as exciting as ever as rivalries will be renewed and records will be broken and Solar will be there to capture all the Olympic moment line feed 24-7 solar opening July 27 to Aug. 12,” added Tieng.
