Veteran spikers Jessica Paron and Francislyn Cais are back to try their luck again.
After losing the first leg crown four months ago, Paron and Cais attempt to redeem themselves right at their home turf when the third leg of the 2012 Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament gets under way tomorrow at the sand courts of the University of the East-Caloocan campus.
But the two standouts from UE, winner of the Battle of Champions last year, are in for a big fight, with titleholders from the UAAP, NCAA and Naascu expected to make their presence felt in the two-day spikefest.
“Ito na po ang preparation namin para sa papasok na collegiate season sa UAAP. Pre-season campaign na po ito para sa amin,” said the 19-year-old Cais during yesterday’s weekly PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue.
A total of 12 teams will be seeing action this time, according to organizer Tisha Abundo, who said most of the participants are newcomers, and are looking forward to enjoying the thrill of playing the sport for the first time.
“The participants don’t necessarily have to represent the schools. This is an open tournament,” said Abundo in the session presented by Smart, the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp. and Shakey’s.
Three-time NCAA finalist Giza Yumang, a former College of St. Benilde standout now with Centro Escolar University, will be partnering with Melissa Tebangin as they vow to give Cais and Paron a run for their money.
