Lions face Cardinals in NCAA

After a 13-day break, reigning champion San Beda College tries to rub the rust of its pistol as it battles a skidding Mapua Institute of Technology today in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament today at the The Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions shoot for their fifth win in six outings at 6 pm while Letran College tries to regain its sharp form when it tackles Lyceum College in the 4 p.m. curtain-raiser.
Fresh from a heart-stopping 65-62 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College, the Knights hope to tighten their grip on the fifth spot entering the homestretch of the first round.
The Red Lions, meanwhile, haven’t played since notching an 81-65 win over the Generals last July 19 and will open a tough four-game grind in the next nine days, including a collision with leaders San Sebastian College and Jose Rizal University.
But before setting their sights on  finals rematch with the Stags, the Lions have to deal with the Cardinals, a team struggling with five straight losses.
