The La Salle Dasmariñas Patriots leaned on a strong start and the hot shooting of its point guard to put away the Manuel L. Quezon University Stallions, 90-58, yesterday in the 11th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Parañaque.
The Patriots got big baskets from sentinel Clifford Castro in the first quarter as they posted their first win in two outings in this cagefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.
Castro fired 23 points, including six of his seven treys in the first period, allowing the Patriots to quickly decide the outcome of the contest. He shot four triples in the last 2:40 of the first quarter for the Patriots, who took a 26-14 spread and never looked back.
Jeoffrey Acain contributed 17 and Roy Rivera had 14 for the Patriots.
Windell Bumanglag showed the way for the Stallions with 23 points, but he was held to just five in the third and limited to just a basket in the last period.
