The highly-anticipated showdown between heavyweights San Beda College and San Sebastian College had to take a backseat as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) management committee cancelled today's games due to inclement weather.
Rev. Fr. Vic Calvo, chairman of the NCAA management committee, yesterday said recent rains prompted them to cancel the scheduled double-header that was also supposed to feature the game between Letran College and Jose Rizal University.
On the same note, the NCAA had also decided to reschedule the games on Saturday between Mapua Institute of Technology and Arellano University in the first game and San Beda and Letran in the second game to a latter date since the campuses of some NCAA-member schools are still being used as evacuation sites by those affected by the calamity.
Calvo and the representatives of nine other schools will meet on Friday to decide on the new schedule.
Meanwhile, UAAP games for Saturday have also been postponed as the Philsports Arena is also being utilized as an evacuation site.
Junel Baculi, UAAP secretary-treasurer, said games featuring University of Santo Tomas and Adamson at 2 p.m. and University of the Philippines and University of the East at 4 p.m. will be re-scheduled.
The La Salle vsAdamson and UE vs UST matches set yesterday will be played on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The slated games on Aug. 12 between National University and La Salle, and Far Eastern University and Ateneo have been moved to August 18 also at the Big Dome.
