Ateneo, NU scuttle badminton foes

Defending men's champion Ateneo and National University moved closer toward the first two Final Four berths after beating their respective foes in the UAAP Season 75 badminton tournament Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
The Blue Eagles turned back University of the Philippines, 4-1, while the Bulldogs blanked winless University of the East, 5-0.
Ateneo and NU, last season's finalists, improved to 4-0 record, with three games remaining in the single-round eliminations.
Reigning MVP Toby Gadi silenced Marc Gio Fajardo with 21-10, 21-8 in the first singles while Justin Natividad outshined Charlo Tengco, 19-21, 21-16, 21-19 in the second singles.
Gadi and Patrick Natividad joined forces to defeat Gian Carlo Manuel and John Jelson Masongsong with 21-8, 21-16 in the first doubles to clinch the tie for the Eagles.
The Bulldogs were dominating throughout the tie, as Jayson Oba-Ob won against Daryll Soledad, 21-14, 21-18, while Emmanuel Garcia crushed Jose Luis Gomez, 21-17, 21-17 in the first and second singles respectively.
Andrei Babad and Joper Escueta joined forces to secure NU's win as the duo walloped Marco Bermejo and Daryll Soledad, 21-19, 21-7.
