Run for your life

A simultaneous three-city run marked 7-Eleven’s Run 2018

By Jan Milo Severo, Contributor

Running is the most undeniably affordable and convenient way of exercise. Just put on your running shoes and you have the entire world to run on.
Researchers havefound that 10-minute run can burn 114 calories. Running delays aging, improves hormone growth, manages your blood sugar and strengthens your heart.
The sport is much more joyful to do with your friends and families. That’s why many fun runs are happening across the globe including here in the Philippines.
One of the most anticipated running events in the country is the 7-Eleven Run Series hosted by Philippine Seven Corporation, country licensee of 7-Eleven. With the continuous success of the 7-Eleven Run Series since 2013, this year’s event was once again a success as almost 20,000 runners participated in the event.
The biggest and most exciting of the series yet, this year’s 7-Eleven’s Run 2018 not just happened in Filinvest, Alabang, but, for the very first time, also in Cebu Business Park, Cebu and SM City Davao, Davao at the same time.
Run 2018 featured nine categories this year in Manila, from 500-mete kids’ run all the way to the 42-kilometer race.
Meanwhile, the Cebu and Davao events had eight and seven categories, respectively. The 500-meter kids run was available only in Manila, and the five-kilometer Buddy Run was not available in Davao.
Run 2018 was also made possible with 7-Eleven’s unique system of self-selected wave starts, allowing participants to choose their wave start and run with people of the same skill or speed.
Rafael Pescos from Cebu dominated the 42-kilometer male run, finishing it with 2:37:39, followed by Richeel Languido of Davao and Bryan Quiamco, also from Davao. Cebu’s Lizane Juay Abella ruled the 42-kilometer female followed by Manila’s Maricar Camacho and Davao’s Judelyn Miranda.
They will all be sent to an international marathon in Asia and all expenses will be paid.
The 7-Eleven Run 2018 was held in partnership with Filinvest City, and exclusive sportswear partner, Asics. The event was also supported by Selecta, Nature’s Spring, Summit, Gatorade, Del Monte, Fit ‘N Right Isotonic Drink, Cheetos, Aquafina, Pocari Sweat, Evian, Kopiko 78, Le Minerale, San Miguel Beer, B’lue, Sip Purified Water, Sosro Fruit Tea, Milo, Safeguard, Grab, and Caltex, as well as media partners Cignal, Hyper, Smart, ABS-CBN Publishing, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, Summit Media, ESPN and Solar Sports.
