Vilma Santos ‘90s starrer reinterpreted in the new millennium

GMA Network is spicing up afternoon viewing with its upcoming TV adaptation of the 1992 blockbuster movie, Sinungaling Mong Puso.
Beginning July 18, the network’s Afternoon Prime slot will sizzle with the classic that once starred Vilma Santos, Gabby Concepcion, Aga Muhlach and Aiko Melendez. It was directed by Maryo de los Reyes.
The television version is just as star-studded, with names for the new millennium leading the cast: Rhian Ramos, Rafael Rosell, Kiko Estrada and Jazz Ocampo.
The story remains faithful to the core — choosing love that is right or love that is real — but, according to its director Ricky Davao, some elements have been incorporated to bring the story to the current times.
The modernized version shows a woman’s discovery of her self-worth and the sacrifices she makes in her relentless pursuit of true love. The story revolves around Clara (Rhian), the abused wife of womanizer Roman Aguirre (Rafael), who is from an influential political clan. Instead of giving in to the agony of her plight, she chooses hope and resilience for the sake of her family. When she meets Jason (Kiko), a younger man by 10 years, she experiences what it is like to be loved for real. Kiko is also unhappily married to Hannah (Jazz), who is pregnant with their child.
Rhian admits she feels challenged to portray a role once played by an acting great, but remains confident that she will give life to the character in her own way. Her director, in fact, is all praises for her talent, saying he is sure audiences will be able to see this for themselves.
For his part, Rafael as Roman is both “excited and nervous” to play a role that is a bit of a “sociopath.”
The younger leads — Kiko and Jazz — are eager to prove themselves worthy of being cast in such career-making roles.
Completing the cast are Michael de Mesa as Mayor Moises Aguirre, Roman’s corrupt father who wants him to keep his political power within their family; Glydel Mercado as Raquel, the perfect trophy wife of Mayor Moises; Cheska Diaz as Helen, Jason’s understanding mother, Sherilyn Reyes as Liza, Hannah’s controlling mother; Stephanie Sol as Camilla, Roman’s mistress; Gee Canlas as Jillian, Clara’s confidante and best friend; JC Tiuseco as Jolo who does everything to please Roman; Gab de Leon as Vin, the right hand man of Roman. Sinungaling Mong Puso premieres on July 18 and will air Mondays to Fridays after Magkaibang Mundo on GMA Afternoon Prime.
