Inspirational book on women Women who have lived enriching lives and incredible journeys took center stage as NIVEA launched Age of Confidence, an inspirational book celebrating the life and beauty of Filipino women in their 40’s and above, in a gala dinner held recently at The Peninsula Manila. The launch became a gathering for the distinguished women who authored the book, all alumnae of Maryknoll College. The event also brought together the author’s families and friends, as well as media personalities who paid tribute to their triumphs and trials in life. “Through NIVEA’s international campaign ‘Live Your Beauty,’ we want to capture the true meaning of beauty through the different facets of a woman’s life and its dimensions. Part of this campaign is the launch of Age of Confidence, which serves as inspiration to other women to bring out beauty in their lives,” said Rica King, NIVEA marketing director and a Maryknoll alumna. During the event, NIVEA introduced its newest anti-aging line called NIVEA DNAge, developed specifically to address skin concerns of women 40 years and above. The book, a project of Maryknoll College High School Class of 1984, is a compilation of personal stories of 40 women at defining moments of their lives. Edited by Cathy Babao-Guballa, an award-winning journalist, editor and columnist, the book aims to capture the power of laughter and love, of friendship and passions, and of adversities and triumphs of women from different backgrounds — writers, artists, public officials, media personalities, entrepreneurs, corporate executives and housewives. The event was hosted by concert king Martin Nievera, who serenaded guests with songs that pay tribute to women. Martin kicked off the night with “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and his very own “Be My Lady.” After the heartwarming song numbers, the women of the hour were introduced. Contributing their personal stories of courage and inspiration were Jackie Aquino-Gavino, Gaby Roldan-Concepcion, Deedee Siytangco, Maggie de la Riva, Girlie Rodis, Isabel Berenguer-Asuncion, Sari Yap, Edna Viada Froilan, Margie Moran-Floirendo, Angel Jacob, Criselda Reyes Lontok, Malu Antonio-Veloso, Betsy Basa-Tenchavez, Frances Isip-Peña, Marilena Banaticla, Mawie Yan-Aglipay, Peewee Cruz-Cordero, Chesca Silva-Bowser, Maria Madonna Tarrayo and Maria Theresa Esteban-Miller. Sharing stories of passion and empowerment are Joanna Camba-Colon, Joy Valdez-Neu, Nana Alejandro-Santos, Sr. Arnold Maria Noel, Jinky Dimayuga-Ferrer, Margarita Evangelista-Jardiolin, Yvette Corinne Talusan-Tomacruz, Cherry Tiosejo-Reyes, Joy Canon-Abaquin, Armie Jarin-Bennett, Adriana Cruz-Regulo, Fernandina Sandico-Ong, Maria Victoria Yap, Aurora Pavia-Asanza, Badjie Buerrero-Trinidad, Maite Defensor, Mila Villavicencio-Reyes, Nina Lim-Yuson, Norma Llamanzares-Sevilla and Carmencita Filler-Leung. Complementing these inspiring women is NIVEA DNAage, the first anti-age care system that works at the skin’s DNA to stimulate the renewal of healthy skin cells and protect it against future external damages. The new product range is also the first to offer a complete anti-age system not only for the face, but for the hand and body as well. With the launch, women in their age of confidence now have every reason to celebrate and nurture their physical and inner beauty. Quest for Filipino fashion designer Cinderella Markeiting Corp., in celebration of its 60 years of business and trade excellence in the retail fashion industry, opens its doors of opportunities to this generation’s aspiring young Filipino fashion designers. The ultimate young Filipino fashion designer will be granted a one-year scholarship Diploma for Fashion Design at the School of Fashion and Arts (SOFA). We all know that Cinderella brands include both local (like Seventeen and C-Women) and international (there’s U2, British India and Esprit), and that’s obviously a pretty big break for the winner, isn’t it? Inventive, innovative and high-spirited by nature, young Filipino fashion artists and designers never run out of brilliant ideas and artistic throbs out of their system — from reinvented haute couture, contemporary tailor-cuts and ready-to-wears, up to ultramodern accessories, shoes and bags designs (Perhaps their creative juices are simply just overflowing). With their compelling force and influence in our society, they are indubitably who we call “trendsetters” these days. And this time of year welcomes the youthful trend of innovatively global clothing designs, from casual and day clothes, to semi-formal/formal and evening dresses. Cinderella’s Designers’ Competition is open to all young Filipino fashion designers aged 21 and above — creative, talented and confident enough to showcase their own works of art in the runway. Aside from a one-year scholarship diploma for Fashion Design at SOFA, the grand prize winner will have the chance to receive a business contract with Cinderella Marketing Corp. The First and Second runners-up shall receive P15,000 and P10,000 worth of Cinderella gift certificates, respectively. Curriculum vitae and a portfolio of your masterpieces are required, as well as three sketches of the themed clothing for women’s or men’s fashion (both for day to evening wear). You may submit your pre-qualification requirements starting on June 23 at Cinderella Marketing Corp. head office at 825 Edsa, Quezon City 1110 (Between MRT Quezon Avenue and Kamuning Station) or at SOFA, 55 Paseo de Roxas Ave., Makati City.
